Extenders

Fillers generally consist of inorganic substances of varying chemical composition, and consequently, different physical properties. Its task is to fill the gaps in the structure of the coatings, and thus influence the mechanical properties in the relevant function of the film.

The refractive index of these products is often used to separate them from pigments. For extenders, the index is less than 1.7, which is why this family of substances does not reach any degree of dispersion or covering power.

Fillers influence technical properties such as washability and hardness, but they also increase the non-volatile content of the paint. In many cases, by absorbing UV radiation, the fillers prevent premature degradation of the substrate protected by the paint and the polymeric protective layer itself. Another function of the fillers is to optimize protection against corrosion.

Carbonates

Calcium carbonate enhances properties such as opacity, gloss, whiteness or resistance to rubbing without increasing formulation costs. It stands out for its high purity and low abrasiveness. The ultra-micronized grades optimize the consumption of titanium dioxide and other fillers, such as precipitated carbonates (PCC) and calcined kaolins. Depending on the product, it can be used in paints and coatings, polymers, detergents, among others.

Kaolins

Kaolins are characterized by their whiteness, particle size, and semi-reinforcing properties. They are recommended in the formulation of water-based and solvent-based coatings, in spreading pigments and pastel colors, in inks and in the rubber industry. It reduced the consumption of other more expensive pigments without hindering overall quality.

Talcs

Talc is a mineral of high purity and whiteness. These aluminum silicates or magnesium hydrosilicates compounds are characterized by their softness, high degree of whiteness, hydrophobic properties and the absence of associated mineral impurities. Depending on the product, it can be used for architectural and industrial coatings, plastics, among other applications.
